THE COUNTERPOINT TACTICAL SYSTEM (CTS)

Developed by the Founder and Senior Practitioner, Master Zach Whitson, The Counterpoint Tactical System (CTS) is a weapon-based integrated martial art designed for the street with an emphasis on real-world tactical counter offense. Although an eclectic martial art, the counterpoint tactical systems largest traditional influence can be found in the Filipino Martial Arts. The purpose of CTS is to train and certify students and instructors, making them well versed in every phase of civilian armed and unarmed combat. The CTS curriculum is designed with a survival based philosophy and is not intended to be practiced or used as a sport. CTS uses a "Civilian Use of Force Continuum" to help students better understand real world violence and how to appropriately respond to a bad situation.
Being an integrated martial art, CTS uses tactics from various arts based on multiple attackers, weapons, range or strategy to formulate a cohesive curriculum. As the range changes so does the combative tactics. Categories of training include weapons techniques such as single and double stick, knife, staff, gun, and the combination of stick and dagger; and empty hand techniques such as kicking, stomping, striking, punching, trapping, locking, throwing and ground fighting.
Concepts of accelerated learning are built into the training process to more quickly advance the student’s combative skill sets. Additionally, CTS uses the concept of “Block Training” where beginner level basics are presented in blocks of material with all subsequent intermediate and advanced training stacking onto earlier foundational blocks. Laterally, training blocks or disciplines fit side by side, and any individual block can attach to or support another. Therefore, through the training and testing process of each block, students develop important skill sets before advancing to connecting blocks and as blocks connect the student’s knowledge and skill mastery grows exponentially

The Counterpoint Tactical System is the primary system of training at DCA, with promotions directly authorized by the Master and Founder of the system, and being officially certified by the Counterpoint Tactical International organization.

CACOY DOCE PARES ESKRIMA / ESKRIDO

Founded in 1932 at Cebu City, Philippines the Doce Pares System became world renowned for its prominence in stick fighting competition in both international tournaments and back alley challenge matches in the Philippines. Inevitably other systems would challenge the Doce Pares group and as challenges were issued, Cacoy Canete, the youngest brother of the Canete clan, was always selected as the Doce Pares Champion to defend the name of Doce Pares. Over many years Grand Master Cacoy developed “Dekit Surikbut” the “close curving” style that gave Cacoy the advantage to win over one hundred full contact stick fights. As an innovator and master tactician Grand Master Cacoy is responsible for the tactical modifications that made the Doce Pares fighting style what it is today.

AMERICAN KENPO

Developed by Senior Grandmaster Ed Parker, American Kenpo is among the most comprehensive martial arts systems in the world. The need for new innovations were realized years ago by Mr. Parker during his early years of training. While growing up in Hawaii, he analyzed the methods of fighting and saw the unquestionable need for an updated version of martial arts. Breaking the bonds of tradition, he experimented with more logical and practical means of combating our modern day methods of fighting, and emerged with a system of unique, practical, realistic, and applicable innovations that encompassed theory, sound logic, and reasoning not yet employed by other systems.

Developed by Master Zach Whitson, Kenpo Counterpoint is offered as an “add-on” system to be taught in conjunction with a school’s current American Kenpo program. Kenpo Counterpoint training allows instructors to implement a specific skill set training without changing or modifying their standard or current curriculum. In fact, non Kenpo schools will also find huge benefits using Kenpo Counterpoint in raising the overall skill level of their students.

American Kenpo is offered as a “black belt” program at DCA, and is instructed to compliment the skills found in our primary system of training. It is encouraged to continue or cross train in CTS for advanced and extended skill set training.
